Picked this vase up the other day. Hoping someone can help date it or it's design. Are there old catalogs available?
Signed "Erkki Vesanto 3650 -250" (I think that's the number, It's my best guess on the '3' and the '2')
Is there a decoding system for the numbering?
This vase is 25cm tall (nearly 10")
Thanks all,
-
If it helps the gray-cut insects looks like maybe mayflies or similar insect. A shorter vase (20cm) in this pattern I saw somewhere online a while back called them butterflies but they do not look like butterflies to me.
Oh, and the interior of the vase has finish, almost thin crackle-like you find on some stretch glass but not quite and that finish is also very slightly iridescent.

Erkki Vesanto did not work for Iittala. (His main work is from Riihimäen Lasi, which this is not from)
I went through the book about his work published for the exhibition in 2012 at the Finnish Glass Museum and could not find anything quite similar, and not even one picture of an engraved object designed my him. But the text says: "Siiroinen collaborated for approximately ten years with Studiolasi. In addition to design work he participated in displays of products in department stores and signed Studiolasi products.... Siiroinen was also a skilled engraver and would occasionally decorate his glasses himself"
I can also find that Studiolasi products were numbered in that way (later figure tells the height). Studiolasi Oy was founded in 1977.
Just to be sure, one couldn't...: as they mention: "In addition to working for Studiolasi, Siiroinen is known to have designed at least for the Napapiirin Taidelasi company i n1985. There is no information, however, on the designed objects. Siiroinen also collaborated with Jaakko Liikanen's JL-lasi company in the mid-1990s." So in theory it could be either of these too.
I am just suggesting, sorry, I want to add I have never seen even a picture of a similar vase so I cannot confirm anything.

Hi px,
Thank you very much for posting but I think you may have misread my original posts. The signature is "Erkki Vesanto" not "Erkki Siiroinen". Both Finnish but two different people, two very different styles.

Huh! I totally mixed the two Erkkis then. :) Maybe just because I just could not think of Erkki Vesanto having done anything like that... because mainly his work is so different...SORRY...
What we know is:
Erkki Vesanto obviously worked for Iiittala.
Erkkitapio Siiroinen for Riihimäen Lasi and Studiolasi. (nothing to do with this vase then)
I hope you find more information of your vase.
