Title: Quality diamond moulded tazza - maker?
Post by: WhatHo! on July 22, 2015, 11:13:21 AM
Hi guys, help here please.
This is a quality hand-blown, lead crystal tazza with tight diamond moulding and a ruby trailing.
It is 6 1/4" tall and has a snapped pontil.
TIA Wolfie

I would have suggested Salviati but not if it is lead crystal.

I thought Salviati did make in lead crystal, as it was a possibility suggested for mine http://lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/displayimage.php?pid=2445

I know but I have never handled a bit of Salviati that I thought lead, why do you say yours are made with lead Christine and Wolfie?

The baloton blown (diamond effect) of Wolfie's is very reminiscent of many of Salviati's wares.

Just tried the Salviati finger bowls I have and they ring nicely too. I suspect it is because the glass is so thin that they resonate easily (rather than they are lead crystal).

In an entirely unscientific way they 'feel' much too light to be lead crystal. As far as I remember there was little tradition of using lead on Murano.

I have a lovely old coloured Tazza (no idea of maker) which rings and rings and rings, but it isn't lead crystal.
I always thought it was just because it was thin and beautifully shaped that it resonates for so long.

However, I've never tried to tell the difference between lead and other glass by ring, I heft the weight.
