Hoping perhaps one of our U.S. contributors could give me some information about this Art Deco Powder Bowl.
Frosted pink with kneeling nude on lid. Marked to base Desmay Inc. Fifth Avenue, New York and 973. Assuming Desmay is retailer rather than manufacturer, any ideas on maker.
All thoughts and suggestions much appreciated, John

Dermay Inc was a New York-based wholesaler and distributor of perfumes and cosmetics founded by Jerome Baum. They were known for these satin glass jars and perfume bottles. Apparently she is known as Rapunzel or "Bubble Lady".....found this info on the internet may help you or not ?? :)

Thank you, all nice to know

The only maker of these types of powder bowls I know is L E Smith ? They made loads of figural ones... :)

I believe the maker is unknown since Dermay in all probability owned the mold & simply shiiped it to whatever glass manufacturer to make the pour & ship the mold back. Same situation exists with those marked Ramses & Taussaunt where both "brands" say NY & Paris. Not uncommon at all in the U.S. during the 30s for retail distributors to ship molds they own to glass companies to make the pours & ship back the inventory & molds.

Seems to be modelled on the Venus Anadyomene sculpture by Paul Manship c.1924 http://collection.imamuseum.org/artwork/79918/
