Title: Caithness Paperweight Hyacinth Bouquet No Date Cane
Post by: cxgirl on August 02, 2015, 09:45:19 PM
Hi,
I have this Caithness bouquet paperweight but it has no date cane. It is marked on the base Whitefriars Caithness Scotland Hyacinth Bouquet 20/50. I don't have any books on Caithness so have been using google - the information I find says it should have the monk cane (it does) with date canes, so I'm not sure why this one wouldn't. It is 2 1/2" diameter.
Any information appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

The monk&date cane was mostly used for the early (1980-84, occasionally later) millefiori weights. Most early lampwork weights had a clear ground, and I assume the monk&date canes were considered too large and obtrusive - and were replaced by smaller monk-only canes, which then were also used for later lampwork weights with coloured base.
