Title: Rosenthal Glass Paperweight Gold Aventurine Feather
Post by: cxgirl on August 06, 2015, 04:09:48 AM
Hi,
Hope it is okay to share this one, I find it quite fascinating. I thought at first this was a real feather inside but I think it is gold aventurine. Stands about 7" in height.

That is lovely! :)
Maybe a real feather was used in making the paperweight?

Looks rather like gold foil than aventurine...

Thanks Michael! That would make sense,  the real feather was covered in gold foil. The feather would disintegrate from the heat and the outline in the foil would remain.

Don't really have a clue, but wouldn't the organic matter cause some odd things to happen if it was encased in hot glass because the gases couldn't escape?

You'd get a nasty black mess inside. It is possible that the foil was cut into a feather before being laid on the marver

Thanks bat and Christine, I never thought about the remains if it was a real feather!

Hi all. Could it be that a real feather was loaded with gold dust and tapped on the marver leaving a 'presence' of gold which could be picked up by the gather?
