Title: Four piece moulded pressed glass dish 304012 - ID = US Glass No. 15064 Tennessee
Post by: brucebanner on August 07, 2015, 03:01:35 PM
Several times i have come across what look like RD numbers without the RD, are they unregistered designs or something completely unrelated?.

A four piece mould and i'm guessing Victorian from the wear to the base and outer rim edge.

6 1/4 inches in length.

Regards Chris.

Not sure that I've ever seen a Registered design No. - that was minus the letters Rd., which always precedes the No. as far as I know, and the fact of having a No. would mean it had been Registered by the Board of Trade.             Perhaps Fred can shed light on that aspect.

Jenny Thompson's book omits this No., which if it were a genuine British Registration would have been around August 1897, although as we've discovered in the past some Registrations were classified wrongly, and ended up in CLASS IV instead of the correct CLASS III for glass - and as a consequence were missed by researchers like Thompson, Slack and Lattimore.
Perhaps made outside the U.K. and imported?

Other countries used a similar system for registering designs, certainly the States and possibly Germany.

Take it these other pieces you mention - without the Rd. -  also came into the shop.

No Paul, when you start looking on pressed glass for marks numbers it's surprising how many have something on them, i have seen two more without the RD but not picked them up, most the RD's and Lozenge marks i have found recently are on here, i'm still looking to get one up on Fred though ;)

well maybe I'm walking around with my eyes closed and have seen some like yours and not realized............   we need Fred.

up until two or three years back you could go to some of the local boot sales on a Sunday and come back loaded down with bags of numbered pressed glass  -  not so now though - and it's really only the odd piece to be seen.............  of course you get a head start on the rest of us ;)

Hello

The pattern on this oval is US Glass No. 15064 Tennessee introduced in 1899 or perhaps a foreign copy.  No idea about the number.
