Title: Davidson Purple Slag Glass Lidded Clam Shell

When I first saw this clam shell at a fair a while back I was not thinking Victorian. I thought maybe an unknown maker and possibly somewhat later.

On close inspection both pieces are marked with the Davidson lion trade mark. The colour looks more like the purple slag glass that they did in the mid 1960's , but then it would not have been marked. So 1880-90 is most likely the date it comes from.

Measures 5" in length and 2" in height.

A very nice find Roy - I've never seen that pattern before, but I would also assume a 1960s Davidson manufacture without the mark.

Not a pattern I can remember seeing before, if it had not been marked I would not have bought it.

In some remote recess of my brain, I had a dim recollection that Davidson did mark some of their 1960s re-introduction of slag.  So I went to the Cloudglass.com site and viewed the Post World War II gallery where there are several examples of purple slag with Davidson lion marks.

Thanks for that because it was still playing on my mind that it could still be 1960's. The base of the little feet just did not quite look right for Victorian as they have little dimples, plus the colour did not seem right. Thanks for confirming they did then use the lion trade  on a few pieces in the 1960's.
