Title: Millefiori inkwell help

So is it really a marriage or something made at the factory before it even made it out? Arculus Bachus Walsh Walsh or Whitefriars ?

It was made by Arculus or Walsh Walsh - those are their canes, and typical rather untidy set-ups. Although these two factories were not renowned for matching the tops and bases, as Nick says, the metal fitting indicates a smashed piece that has been repaired. Whether the stopper and base came together from the factory is hard to say, as very similar canes can be found in different pieces. This type of repair of a bottle or marriage of different damaged tops and bases is not uncommon, as the stopper shaft can break and the neck crack when they are knocked over. Some times the stopper is turned into a miniature paperweight (but you can tell that is what has happened from looking at the underside), and the base turned into a larger paperweight - often a rather flat, near cylindrical piece.

Incidentally, there are few, if any, Bacchus bottles with millefiori in the base and stopper - the two or three I have seen that were claimed to be Bacchus were neat pieces, but I suspect by an unknown maker. Regarding Whitefriars, their first millefiori bottles were made in very small numbers in 1938.
