Title: Frigger..French?
Post by: bat20 on August 21, 2015, 11:40:18 AM
Hi all,I found this in a antique stall market without a price on it and ended up paying £3.00 for it,probably the right price but I do really like it for all it's oddness. The strange thing about it is all the canes are on the surface of the glass and then I guess given a flash reheat,it's about 1.5" at it's widest with good wear to the base, any thoughts many thanks.

Hi.  I think it could be from just about any glass studio anywhere in the world - I see no reason to single out the French for the blame!  Murano often make pieces with canes on the outside, but this looks like someone rolled a blob of hot glass over a few remnants of cane  - perhaps just tidying up?

Not your cuppa Alan lol,I'm sure it was an end of the day thing and taken home or kicked around the workshop for a bit,I thought it could be something they do to clean up the broken bits after work,it has a lot of wear to the base,or the bit it rests on,and I just posted it on the chance someone recognised the cane, but from what you say it sounds like a cane everybody had in stock, sorry to say I do like it ??? :)

Hi.  Can you tell from the 'feel in the hand' whether it is lead glass or not?  Regarding the cane, I think a lot of small studios will get canes from elsewhere, so even though this could be a Murano cane, it might have ended up somewhere else.

Ahh ok interesting,it does feel heavyish for it's size, kind of feels denser than my smallest Chinese  weight which is bigger,if that all makes sense.
