Title: Lampworked cockatoo on pedestal
Post by: glassobsessed on August 28, 2015, 07:24:25 PM
Probably a bit of a long shot this one!

The whole thing is around 15cm tall, any chance of identifying the country of manufacture? I wondered if the aventurine crest pointed towards Italy but of course aventurine rods are likely available for lampworkers to buy...

The art of making birdies is highly developed in China - I have been surprised on several occasions. I found that they often have a mischievous gleam in their beady eyes. So your cockatoo may be from there. But it may also be from Lauscha, of course.

Thanks Ivo, China I had not considered. For no good reason it struck me as made fairly recently, one of a pair apparently.

I did wonder very recent, because I know there is a recent and rather lovely little bird sculpture on top of a tall pole, by Tracey Emin somewhere. This might be a tribute to that. It is very attractive. :)
