any ideas of origin of this facet cut weight , two outer rows of canes on clear ground, Italian? Chinese? Maltese? or even Caithness etc flat polished base no makers marks etc

Looks like Caithness to me as they made a few weights with this type of millifiori surround, some had an engraved initial in the centre other had a transfer print. That's my vote cast so let's see if other agree !

Hi.  I think Dave is correct (as ever!) - I have seen similar pieces with a company logo etched or sand blasted into the clear centre of the base.
