Title: opalescent huge waves
Post by: Sue C on September 12, 2015, 03:04:03 PM
Hi all, long time no see, I have resently aquired two huge opalescent waves, the person I bought them off used them as candlesticks but I suspect they were [art of a display maybe in a shop, they are 21cm high and 23cm across the base they weigh a wopping 2.9kg each, the opening at the top is rectangular and tapers from 3cm at the front and 7cm at the back, i suspect they may have held a figurine maybe Venus or Dolphin's ? they are not signed and I have read all my book's and searched the the internet to no avail, any help would be most appreciated and thank you in advance.

Lovely opalescence!
Please could you post bigger (and undistorted) pics? ;)
Appr. 700 pixels wide should be fine.
I don't see any detail...

Getting there, Sue  ;) - lovely to see you again and what a stonking pair of bits of glass to be making your comeback with!
I'm glowing green with envy at such glorious lumps of personal, private sunsets - encapsulated in rolling,  crashing waves!

Hi Sue  :-* :-* I know i couldn't believe what i was seeing !! but i think they may be important ? just a gut feeling ?  the bases have a hole at either end, probably to sit on a peg to stabalize them and stop them from moving, they are so large and heavy they could not IMHO been for personal use, they are incredibly heavy!! i will try to get better photo's, i have a new lap top and still trying to get used to it lol, always have been a technophobe (spl?)
Thank you for the warm welcome Iv'e missed you all so much xxx
Will try to post more photo's tomorrow they are outstanding pieces!!

These are much more interesting, how old do you think these waves are? Is there much wear?

well, i'm not sure ? there are straw marks and a little bit of ware to the bases, there is also  a stress crack to the reseptor at the top of the piece where the candle???? goe's, but i still think these where meant to hold a figurine, my guess is 1930's but i havea funny feeling they may be earlier.
I wish you could hold them ! they are fantastic !!
