Title: Is this Bohemian or Scottish? ID Please
Post by: paperweights on September 14, 2015, 05:17:40 PM
I've had this paperweight in my collection for almost 15 years.  I believed it to be Bohemian when I first got it.  More recently I thought the canes looked Scottish.  It looks a lot like the paperweights identified as  Reidel, but all of the examples I have found are on a green ground.  The base has considerable wear.  So what is it?

Size:  2 11/16" diameter by 2 1/8" high.  Bottom is ground flat.  Thank you in advance.

Hi Allan,

Several of the canes match examples of Riedel weights that I have handled. But you are right this is a very unusual example with a clear ground typically these are found with transparent green ground with flecks of mica in the cushion. I've seen published examples with red and blue grounds both with mica flecks but I've never heard of a clear found.

Regards,
Eric
