This is 3ins long and 1 3/4ins at its widest. The blue-ish banding that runs round it can, in places, be felt on the surface of the glass. I'm wondering if it is Mdina. Any opinions would be welcome. Many thanks

Looks like it to me

I think it is as well. Handy to have in case a bottle turns up missing a stopper. :)
-
Extremely likely... ;D
Tortoiseshell colour, likely from a round or square bottle, similar to this one.

Yay - thank you all. It's a lovely thing as is - I doubt a bottle will turn up tomorrow.

The stoppers can easily get lost or fall out and get broken, I reckon your chances are pretty good, maybe not tomorrow though!

I do wonder if it would fit this although it's described as Amethyst. It does have that blue-ish swirl going on http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Art-Glass-Maltese-Mdina-amythyst-glass-Bottle-Vase-circa-1960s-70s-/321841480214?hash=item4aef3f4216 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Art-Glass-Maltese-Mdina-amythyst-glass-Bottle-Vase-circa-1960s-70s-/321841480214?hash=item4aef3f4216) I am however too mean to bid.

I believe your stopper is tortoiseshell, Alastair, but it would still sit very nicely on an amethyst ink pot like the one in the link.

I would suggest that the seller is overvaluing that bottle by a significant margin...
Sadly! ;D

Thanks Sue and yes, I wondered about that BiN price.

It's a very steep bin indeed. ;)
But it's from the early '70s, not desperately common and it does have lovely bubbles.
Something will turn up to support your stopper, I'm sure. It's easier to find a stopperless bottle than a bottle-less stopper and the stoppers were optional at the time of buying, they do mostly all sit very loosely and are interchangable between things.

I've lost your email address again Alastair. I have trawled my inbox, can't find it. Would you contact me please? :)
