Title: Scottish paperweight but which era ?
Post by: malcmat on September 22, 2015, 03:10:31 PM
Hi, I presume this is Scottish but which era ?
2.5 inches dia and 1.750 inches tall with a fire polished concave pontil mark.
I trawled through smug mugs site but after 2000 images may have missed it. lol
Many thanks
Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

It looks Ysart Bros/Vasart to me.

Not Ysart Brothers (1946 - 1956) - fire polished base is usually later

Either a) Later years of Vasart Ltd (1956 - 1964) or Early years of Strathearn (1964 -1980)

Edited to add: See my additional comment below

I should have added to my comment above ...

My reasons for saying "early years of Strathearn" rather than simply "any year of Strathearn" are 1) the style of the fire polished base and 2) the style and setting of the canes, which follow on from the Vasart Ltd years, but without the "canes being proud of the ground" feature.
