Title: Homegaard tankard, year of manufacture and what is the etching represent
Post by: daringer on October 15, 2015, 02:52:04 AM
I recently purchased a Homegaard tankard.  I was able to obtain a lot of good information from the DANISH Glassworks REFERENCE MUSEUM.  I tried to find a way to email them but to no avail.  They had a link to this forum.  Back to the tankard it has a what appears to be a geographic area etched into the glass with a bear inside the outline.  Also what year this may have been manufactured.  I was looking for any information on this handblown glass including value.

First post, hope I'm in the right place, if not sure someone will let me know.

Thanks!

Hi, I cannot help much with your tankard, but the geographic region shown is Greenland.

The polar bear is  the greenland flag. The year is 1967. Prices are never discussed here.

Welcome to the glass message board and thank you for an intefesting post. Keep 'em coming!

Great photo on the box - would a manufacturer use one like that today?

Thanks for the responses and information.  I had looked at a map of Europe for country shapes and the outline seemed familiar but couldn't place it, didn't go far enough north.  Feel a bit lazy not realizing Greenland. I will take more time and explore the forum for discussions on other areas of interest.

Thanks again,
John

There is no polar bear in the greenlandic flag
But the polarbear is a part of their "coat of arms"

Your glass is probaly made as gift from greenlandic goverment

Thanks! took some time off.  I found the coat of arms, but interesting thought on gift from government.  If this was the case do you have any idea if the etching would have been done by Homegaard or locally in Greenland?

Thanks for the reply John

Dear John

I think the etching is done by Holmegaard
