I broke a friend's glass, and am terrified about telling him. I hope to have the set's edition name so I can google for it more easily.
I haven't been able to find this set on Etsy and Ebay using "Bayel Cristal" (which I ascertained, thanks to this forum). Any tip where I may get this? I'm in South Australia.

Hi and welcome. :)
One thing about glass is that it can break. It's just part and parcel of using it. Accidents happen.
There is a well known internet site for tracking down patterns on glasses and buying single replacements.
Here's a link. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice.
The 'friend' is my landlord :( Guess not so much of a friend, and maybe even less of one after he finds out!
-
UPDATE: Couldn't find it. Emailing company now. thanks for the link
-
A landlord should not be putting glasses which they treasure in their rented property in the first place. ;)
I assume s/he has a deposit from you to cover breakages etc.?
I don't even know if these are expensive ones - I can't tell much from your pics. (Cut stuff is very difficult to photograph.)
There is a heck of a lot of stuff to trawl through on that site, but it is the best known one for this sort of problem.
If nothing else, you might be able to find the name of the pattern.
But if your landlord makes a fuss about it, they are being unreasonable. Accidents happen.

He has some misunderstanding about me, plus there are some mistakes that I did make. So, I've been treading on eggshells the past week. He can also be very generous, so I feel bad.
It's so stressful staying with the landlord!
I've taken new pics with my camera.
The glass feels expensive..

@Ivo
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the glass isn't among them. I went through every page, as well as the collections in the left-hand sidebar, but to no avail. Really appreciate your help :)
-
Maybe you could search for CRC, the other name for Bayel.
-
Looking at the top rim and how the base is attached to the stem I'm not convinced that this glass is cut cristal at all ???
-
It has the Bayel mark, as per: http://chataboutdg.com/gallery/img3151.htm
Thanks for chiming in!
In addition, replacements.com said it will get back to me within 3-5 days.
-
Apologies and good luck for your search! :)
-
replacements.com replied with this, "We do not have stock in your pattern at this time nor do we know the original pattern name. We have given this pattern a number (BAY10) to be able to add it to our database and search for matching pieces. We will notify you once pieces become available."
I sure hope it does not mean this edition is rare/antique..
-
It's a fairly ordinary pattern and relatively modern judging from the rim, so I doubt it's either rare or antique. Your best bet is to fess up instead of beating yourself up. It doesn't look like a priceless item
-
whew!! That's a relief.
Still it isn't nice. What if it was from an aunt who has since passed away.
-
I had a look on Ebay.fr for you and even though I didn't come across this pattern, other patterns sell for about €10 a piece...
-
Also Jan Kilian of glaskilian.de - specialized in stemware - shares my opinion that this is pressed (crystal) glass, not cut. Probably produced for exportation abroad and it will be difficult to find a replacement here in Europe.
-
@Anne Tique @pamela Thank you very much for helping me to look around :)
@Anne Tique - On this website Royale de Champagne-Bayel the price of one piece ranges from 40 to 100 euros. So I was thinking of asking my friend to set a price to replace the set, and I'm readying myself for 160-400 euros.. Not good news for someone who's gone back to school as a mature student. This will be a lesson in being more careful.
@pamela - I looked up pressed and cut glass and can't decide which would be this glass, and will trust your opinion. (It doesn't have the dimples that pressed glass is supposed to have.) I sure hope 'made for export'=modern + affordable. Couldn't find this brand in the malls here.
-
I guess from the site you mentioned, you would get a new set of glasses, but as the glass that you broke is not yours, you'd like to spend as little as possible ... well, I presume anyway. Here's a link with a few examples, the pattern you're looking for is not for sale right now, unless I have missed it, but it gives you an idea how much you'd be paying on ebay.fr. You would probably pay more for shipping than the price of the glass itself, but you'd still pay less.

Anne, merci!
At least one of the items listed by Anne is pressed glas (http://www.ebay.fr/itm/171983119801?clk_rvr_id=921331278628&rmvSB=true)
and if my knowledge of French language serves me right, the seller offers 'verres estampillés' in the meaning of 'verre moulé' = pressed glas.
I guess you see the big difference between these and the cut glasses offered in Anne's list.
If I were you I'd buy a set of new glasses which you can afford and really like for daily use, and leave the rest of five Bayel alone. One missing glass is normal wear and tear - just my opinion
:-*
-
Not quite but it doesn't matter really, 'verre estampillé' translates literally as stamped glass, meaning as in marked.
I agree with the idea of buying another set, it's still cheaper, you've shown respect for the landlord and he/she can't really say anything then ;D
-
Thank you, Anne, I really appreciate to get corrected! :-* 'Estampillé' is too close to 'Stempel-gepresst' ;D
-
Dear both,
Thanks for the great idea. I'll give them the link to US Ebay (we wouldn't be able to understand how to use ebay.fr), and have them pick what they like from there. Problem for them is, the sets are old--but it works for my budget!
What you’ve said about wear and tear/one glass is no big deal is comforting (but I really wonder how I might react if MY glass got broken!) – I come from a household where everything is cheap and disposable, so I was worried about such fancy items.
