Hi, this heavy decanter weighs 2.183 kgs and stands 26cm tall and has a diameter of 7.8cm. The base has a ground out and polished pontil mark and has ware marks on the base. The interesting fact is that it is signed / marked OF HU 136 is this an orrefors mark ?
Many thanks

Yes Orrefors, the H will be designer Edward Hald and the U denotes a blown item.

Thanks John, does the 136 denote a date of manufacture or that's how many were in the batch.
Malcolm

Neither, pattern number I think.

Many thanks John

That mark does look very amateur compared to the Hald Orrefors pieces I have which are more professionally inscribed have a much longer set of numbers and letters.
-
Hi , I have not been able to find a date for this decanter any ideas please.
Culverwood, I did find similar marks on another Orrefors piece in the 20th century Glass encyclopaedia.
-
Two remarks from my 2 reference books.
U = Uncut glass. That is not engraved or faceted.
HU136 is dated as pre 1960.

The model HU 136 was designed as early as 1920.
