My latest Monart just arrived today. It is shape C, size code V11 (7" tall) and colour code 63.
In the auctioneers catalogue it was said to have been in the M. Parkington collection. Indeed there is a label shown in photo 3.
I have the M Parkington catalogue from that date and lot 440 is the same shape and decoration as mine, but the one I have is 18cm tall the one in the M Parkington catalogue is 22cm.
IMHO it is not the same vase, my quandary is do I remove the label or not.

Hi Gary,
Lovely vase...one day I may get a paisley shawl of my own....... ;)
would you call it red or orange?
I think the label is just referring to similar one in the Parkington collection not that it is the Parkington one, though I do believe the auction house may have implied that is was from his collection. May as well leave it on as it's on the base.
(still searching for a lamp shade...then I can post some pics)

That's beautiful :)
I'd leave the label on.

Thanks Roberta and M, I would put in my top ten of Monart pieces in my collection.
Most definitely red.
One more photo, this with a lamp behind the vase.

cracking piece , I like the shawls in shape C , the shape C shawl I have is one of my top 10 aswell

Not as Hallow'een-ey as Roberta's Gary, but still enough to make me quite green. ;D

you mean Garys? lol ive not tried taking one with light behind though it does sit infront of a couple of mushie lamps

I was confuddled there - I thought it was Roberta's red one which was back-lit and all spooky, not the other Gary's.
Your (Millerart) one isn't spookily back-lit. And it's blue, it would be more of an ice cave, or representing the Arctic or Anarctic. Not bonfires and blood!

I think it's quite Van Gogh 'y', starry night.
They are both beautiful

I thoguht I would just add that these are wonderful pieces Gary, for me these are some of the best Monart glass I have seen, really lovely work, I can understand the quest for rarities such as these,

Thanks Robert, my own opinion is that the Paisley shawl decoration is Monart at it's very best.

Thx Gary, I am also praising the paisley examples of millarart of course, great pieces all of these, equally impressive (I somehow conflated both of your GMb identities). Pieces of great glass in this thread, posted by all! As collectors, I think many of like to aspire towards museum quality, if ever possible, which seems the case here,

I dream of finding one in a junk shop for £20 ......one day!
I do believe Mr Millar has two ::) :-*

Both nice but the blue one does it for me Roberta

Given the discrepancy in size, and, unless Paul Kettle peeled off the Christie's Parkington Collection label, which I doubt, I would say that this is not the same piece as Parkington. Furthermore, the way the white and blue colours are laid onto your vase, Gary, does not conform to the picture in the Parkington Part I catalogue.
I would therefore say that the blue label with the info about the Parkington lot is an aide memoire put there by Paul Kettle. Maybe you could consider it part of the piece's history, or, if it 'offends' then, since it adds nothing - remove ;) :)
Cheers, Nigel
PS. I thought I was the only one who romantically considered Van Gogh's swirling skies when looking at these wonderful Paisley Shawl pieces :) :)

As do I. Wonder if they ever wandered over here (Canada).
