Title: Mdina info sought
Post by: essi on November 04, 2015, 09:58:54 PM
No expert on mdina but could not find any images of this vase on the net.
From which period would this vase be from ?.
It stands 100mm high and is 100mm dia. Polished flat base with no mark on the base.
Thank you,
Tim.

Hiya,  :)
This shape is called an "Inside-out", it probably dates between mid-late '70s and into the '80s.

Thanks for the reply Sue. Mdina is not my main collecting field but when you see a nice piece of glass like mdina you have to bring it home.
Thanks again,
Tim.

The Inside-out is a rather lovely early "classic" design, by Michael Harris.
There is something very pleasing about them. They remind me a little of bowling balls, which remind me of my Grandpa. :) They fit nicely and comfortably in the palms of your hands when you hold them.

Yours has some very interesting colour striations, a little more interesting than just plain teal over the bubbly yellow inside.

Some of the colour variations found in this shape...

 ;)
Ok, you're obviously the definitive "inside-out man". 8)

The "plainer"ones with the Maltese cross prunt are later on in their history - the multicoloured ones without prunts and sometimes with "button" rims, as John shows, are all really early experimental pieces.

The teal coloured ones with prunts are the product of the experimentation, which did go into production as a range.

Just about my favourite shape.  ;D

After checking I now have twelve, that photo is a couple of years old. The addition is another 'amber' example, a little darker than the first one (second from left, back row).

Thanks for the extra info and the images.
What would we do without the glass message board.
