Title: Loetz Vase? Yes or No? Silver Overlay!
Post by: dagart on June 30, 2006, 07:40:19 PM
Good Day All!
I may purchase this art glass vase and would like your thoughts on it before I do. The vase is 7 inches tall and decorated with flower and vine sterling overlay. The person selling it says it attributed to Loetz glass. I haven't held the vase, have only the photo I,m sharing with you and I'm waiting for an answer on the way the base was finished, polished or sharp pontil before I do anything? While I'm waiting for an answer, I thought I'd throw my question out to the glass lovers here first! Any thoughts on the maker and possible price range for a piece like this? Thanks for your time!
Dan waiting and watching!

A great looking piece but the photo isn't good enough to be sure.

It looks like green papillon -which is unique to Loetz I believe, but can't be sure. It needs a photo with light going through it!

Cheers

Mike

Hello Mike,
I won't have a picture until the end of the week. I'll post one then. Thanks for your help.

Dan, you mention the base - if it is Loetz what are you expecting it to be like?

thanks

Hello Lynne,
I was told the vase didn't have a signature so I'll look to see if the bottom is polished and if the base shows any signs of age. I'll also look at the glass and try to determine if it is Loetz if I can. Do you have any tips on how to make a judgement call on an unsigned piece of glass?  I'm not sure just how high I'll go when the bidding starts, so I'll wait and watch for replies from the membership before I  make my final decision.  If it is Loetz and it's condition is perfect, what price range would be reasonable and how much should I expect to pay?
Don't worry! I'll pay only what I can and I promise, I won't break into the piggy bank!    Have a great day and thanks for your interest!  :)

Hello Lynne,
I guess the best thing to do is wait and see if any of the experts contact me and give me some tips on Leotz glass or a location where I can read and learn more on my own.  :) If not, I'll try to solve it without their help. Thanks and have a great weekend.

Have a HOT weekend here (for a change for the UK - it isn't raining!)  I think!  Likewise to you too.

If you do hear from any Loetz experts I would be really grateful if you could post the info here,
