Title: Another p/weight ID needed please
Post by: jove14 on November 27, 2015, 03:26:09 PM
Hi.
Thank you all for looking at my last upload.
This paperweight is approx. 3 inches across and the canes are on an almost mottled green ground.
As with my previous weight there are no signature canes.
The only identifying feature I can find is the base, which is ground flat but is slightly concave where the pontil has been ground out.
As you can see from the photo's it needs a slight polish, who would be the best one in Lancashire?
Thank you all in advance for looking.
I will upload another soon.
Regards.
Joe.

Hi Joe.  It looks like a Paul Ysart piece to me, though the base treatment is somewhat unusual, with the ground centre and flat matt grinding elsewhere.  Regarding polishing, there are very few good reliable polishers in the UK - I don't know of any in Lancashire.  Redhouse Glass Crafts at the Ruskin Glass Centre in Stourbridge do a good job at a fair price.

Hi, Alan.
Thanks for the ID.
Shall have to try to get down to Stourbridge next Summer.
Look out for my next upload I think it's a Clichy weight.
Plus I have a glass wall pocket I shall have to take photo's of.
Regards.
Joe.

Hi Joe,

This is a particularly nice roundel style Paul Ysart weight.

By the way, if you do not want to wait until next summer, you can send it to Richard Lamb of Rehouse glass. He will post it back to you once he has polished it.

Hi Joe,

The name of the glass restorer is Richard Lamming (and not Richard Lamb...). Sorry!!!;-)

Hi, SophieB.
Thanks for the info.
I will phone him in the new year and ask how much he charges for polishing.
Regards.
Joe.
