Title: bon bon dish or something else?
Post by: ju1i3 on November 28, 2015, 10:25:56 AM
I don't really know the exact category of "bon bon dish". Is this one or something else? One of my thoughts was a liner for something. I'm not basing that on anything I've read or seen but just instinct. I've never seen anything like this really.

It is heavy amethyst glass, 23 cm long, 7 cm wide and 4.5 cm tall.

thank you for any ideas

Could be a pen/brush tray or a comb tray from a dresser set

I watched that for ages :) it's a beautiful piece of glass.
I did wonder if it might be Bohemian sort of turn of the century.  It reminds me of a perfume bottle I have that is still as yet unidentified, but there were a number of makers who produced this deep amethyst glass at that time  including a German maker I think. Sorry memory fails me on giving names at the mo and I've not time to look them up.
So that could fit in with Christine's suggestion of comb tray or it being part of a dressing table set.

You could try searching for amethyst facet cut vase and it might throw up some makers for you to investigate a bit more (including searching on here for Bohemian facet cut vase as that might also throw up something).

Maybe it was like part of a Set like Lustrousstone said.  Something similar, see the sixth item down:

Thank you all, a dresser set tray certainly makes more sense and Rose, that example is extremely similar, I think we've cracked it!

thank you all
