Another item now, this time a rather vintage looking ashtray. The glass part is clear blue, and the base is made out of some type of metal, which i assume to be brass. The base has the markings "D.D" Any ideas of maker, time period?
Diameter - 14cm
Height - 6.5cm
Weighs 765 grams

I remember we had 4 of them and they were piano feet. Many companies did them - this one may be Maastricht.

I have seen something a bit similar - it was flat clear glass plates, with bobbles around the edges, on a similarly fancy brass stand, but it had several several tiers of ascending sizes (from bottom to top) - possibly for little fancy cakes.
Bobbly edges are things I tend to suspect of being German or possibly even Czech origins. The former, possibly because of a large exposure to lots of contemporary Walther stuff in charity shops and the latter, because of a couple of finds with bobbles on the surface of the glass, one, a jam thingy has Czechoslovakia moulded into the base, the other a big mystery in pressed Uranium glass with some age and no id yet - Czech is suspected.
Maybe Ivo had a grand piano? ;)
(But don't they just have 3 feet?)

As usual you're right of course, but it WAS a very large upright with an additional octave and bullet holes from WWII in it.
