Title: Help in identifying carnival glass, ID = Millersburg 'Grape Wreath"
Post by: Fentoncarnival on December 26, 2015, 06:43:34 PM
Can anyone help me ID this carnival glass?  I got a pair of them from my parents-in-law's estate.  I have searched high and low on the internet for information but have been unsuccessful.  The base of this amethyst coloured small bowl is a somewhat off-circular foot with an incised starburst pattern in the centre.  Thank you so much!

This is Millersburg 'Blackberry Wreath.' You can learn more at this web site:

www.ddoty.com

Be sure to look at the related 'wreath' patterns, and you'll see the design in the centre of your piece.

Thank you, jsmeasell!  I had looked at David Doty's website but I guess I was concentrating on Fenton and didn't think of looking at Millersburg patterns!

Actually, it is not Millersburg's "Blackberry Wreath". It is Millersburg's GRAPE WREATH. It's an easy mistake to make, but the clue is the central pattern. There are four specific designs / motifs, that can be found on the centre of the Grape Wreath pattern. They are:

Eight point star motif (spider web)
Feathery leaf motif seen on the Grape Wreath;
Square & plume motif (star & bars)
Peacock eye & feather motif (also called clover & feather)

You can find out much more about Millersburg, the patterns, the variations, the history (the "Rise" and the "Fall") on out website here:
http://www.carnivalglassworldwide.com/millersburg.html
Be sure to use all the menu tabs at the foot of the main Millersburg page, as we have a huge amount of information there. For example, all the Millersburg exterior designs in detailed line drawings, and the four motifs mentioned above, are all on this page:

Thank you so much, you're absolutely right, I was comparing it to the Blackberry Wreath ones on David Doty's website and indeed I couldn't find an identical centre design.  Would you have any idea as to the value?
