I've read here of paperweights that have gone wrong in manufacture and been turned into pin dishes or alternatively deliberately made as such. With this one, the depression in the top is domed making it unlikely to have any function other than being what it is. Some of the canes are relatively complicated with several internal elements (over twenty from what I can see). Unfortunately Y cracked but thankfully feels solid enough. Measures 3ins diameter x 1 3/8ins high and weighs 315g. I'm wondering if it's an Ysart brothers weight but I'm forever wondering that :) Any help with an ID would be appreciated thanks.

Edited to change my view!
Initially I said. "Yes, visually, very likely Ysart Brothers period." But the shape of the dish is more like later Vasart / Strathearn! The base finish is ground but not polished so I would say it is more likely Vasat than Strathearn.
The only way I know to confirm if it is Ysart Brothers or not is to use shortwave uv light. If it shows a "grey" fluoresence, it is Yssart Brothers (early Vasart). If it shows an obvious blue fluorescence, it is later.

Thanks for this Kevin. I'm guessing my UV light is long-wave. Picture of the label on the lamp I use although I wouldn't know if that makes it clear if it is long-wave or short-wave.

Hi. I am fairly sure these are long wave UV lights, as they are sold for DJs and parties.

Looks to me like it could be an inkwell with the top cut off.
