Can anyone tell me what this item would have been used for? Possible bell jar, stirrup cup, keep your guest from setting their glass down on your furniture, what? Thank you.

Sorry I forgot to list the dimensions, Height = 6 inches, width = 4.25 inches.
thanks

Hi and welcome to GMB.
Strange one: it could be a stirrup cup (wine glass without a foot) but the bent stem makes me wonder why - perhaps to stop it flopping around when in the stand? It isn't an ornamental bell as there's nowhere to attach the clapper: likewise for a pocket watch stand, unless the photo is deceiving me. Can you confirm that there's nothing protruding from the inside of the bell to tie some thread? Also, if it's rough right in the middle (inside) then that would have been where a little hook broke off.
Other thought is that perhaps it's used as a mini-cloche for gardening, but it is too well finished for that IMHO.

Here's what I've been babbling on about: a watch stand/cover.

In bells, clappers are usually glued in.

Thanks for the replies. The interior is perfectly smooth with no indication of attachment for bell or watch. The handle being bent leads me to believe it was not a bell. I am at a loss. The bent handle with knob for grasping on the end would lead toward a bell jar or cover for something. It is small at 6"x4" for a bell jar but still possible.
Thanks all.

I wondered if it was a seed germination bell jar? It'd be small enough for a plant pot...
