Title: Unusual Scotty Dog Figure - possibly English & late 20th century - whitefriars?
Post by: rarebritishartglass on February 24, 2016, 08:37:44 PM
Hi,

Can anyone ID the maker of this interesting and unusual glass scotty dog?

It appears to be a dark uncased aubergine-like colour, and was sold among a small collection of Whitefriars glass items.

I have never seen or heard of any Whitefriars dogs before, so it seems pretty unlikely to have been made at whitefriars glass, but I can't find any other similar examples online.

Any info or ideas greatly appreciated.

Best wishes Michelle.

Hi Rose,

Thank you for your comment. I have looked through all of the various murano designs for dogs and can't find any the same, and I also can't find any similar one colour shapes.

I only mentioned whitefriars as it came from a collection of this dog plus six other pieces of whitefriars glass. There was no murano or other makes of glass in the collection?

I know it is very unlikely to be whitefriars as they didn't make dogs, but I do really admire the quality and charm of this piece, and I am not usually a big admirer of the murano glass dogs similar to the one you posted in your link.

Hopefully someone will recognise the maker or style, or have a similar example, so I can find out more about them.

Best wishes, Michelle.
