Here is an example of a similar unmarked vase, but this time in marbled blue and white glass.

(Permission for the re-use of these photos on the GMB granted by Alan Smith).

Not in any of the Sowerby or Davidson catalogues that I am aware of.

The colouring of both pieces reminds me of some of the Greener pieces from around 1880 or so, but I know of no documentary evidence for a definitive attribution.

Does anyone have any more colours to show or ideas for attribution, please?

Fred.

there seems to have been a fascination albeit briefly, around the late 1870's, for three section pieces along the lines of this example and described as 'Tripod Vase'  -  there appear to be possibly three from Sowerby, but unfortunately none is straight sided like this one - although I suspect all are of a similar size.
My pix are of poor quality and show images drawn using that purple pencil which was used frequently by the guy who was obviously responsible for submitting factory drawings to the Board of Trade during the period in question.

So on the face of it not Sowerby, and a mystery, unless their Registered tripod shape was thought to be sufficiently generic to be able to act as a stand in for 'similar' shapes.    The nearest I can find is Rd. 324322, which I suspect Fred is already aware of.

Thank you for looking, Paul.

Chris and I are both aware of the triple vase from Sowerby RD 324322 of 29 July 1878 (Sowerby pattern no. 1326, shown on page 6 of pattern book IX, 1882) – I believe Chris recently had one in clear flint glass for sale.

In a similar style, here are some photos of an unmarked, double, straight-side, angular posy vase in pressed glass (white opaque in this case), the sides being embossed with bulrushes and ferns. (Permission for the re-use of these photos on the GMB granted by Kevin Collins). I also have reference photos of an example of this double vase in purple marbled glass, though the marbling is much less ‘ muddy’ than that of Chris’s triple vase.

Hopefully this shows the colour difference, more matt and less shine.

just in case anyone is not immediately aware, the last picture in Chris' four images just posted  -  the final piece in clear glass with matt band around the midriff with hoop handles and "in clear flint glass", is Sowerby Rd. 324322, and described on the original factory drawing as 'Tripod Vase'...................   but I suspect that most people may have already realized that.

But I doubt that it was made from 'flints' ;) ;)

So, no nearer to an id for the piece at the beginning of this thread then.

This might be of interest to the Sowerby collector.

There is the little tripod vase with another on the second page.

Yes I have been on your site a few times, you have some very nice pieces, call me old fashioned but I find it a lot easier to pick up a pattern book than switch my computer on and search through lots of files. I was searching yesterday for a piece of Rossi glass I found recently in a charity and a Web search brought me here, several of the Web links and sites had gone over time which was disappointing, which could one day happen to your website.

I was also looking for a maker on a piece of Deco glass and spent 2 hours on Pams and the glas-musterbuch.de pattern books it would have took a tenth of the time if I had the books in front of me.
