Title: Old, possibly antique splatter weight, rough pontil mark, Continental, Bohemian?
Post by: RoyJ99 on April 24, 2016, 06:23:12 PM
Hi all, I've been on a bit of a buying spree with regards to glass the last week or so and I picked up this little paperweight at an antique centre, didn't pay much but it caught my eye. The glass has a very slight grey/brownish tinge to it which may not come across in the photos, an extremely rough pontil mark in the centre of a slightly concave base. Judging by the amount of wear to the base it would appear to have some age but I'm wondering about the origins, to my untrained eye it appears to be continental so possibly Bohemian? Any input is greatly appreciated. It measures approximately 7cm in diameter and 5cm in height.

Thank you

Roy

Hi.  From the top view, the design resembles some Val St Lambert products, but it is clearly not a Val St Lambert piece. I suspect it is from one of the other smaller Belgian factories, or maybe Alsace.  It is certainly not English, and not from any 'known' European factory.

Thanks Alan, much appreciated, I'm happy if I can just pin it down to a country as opposed to a particular factory  ;)
