Title: Large millefiori paperweight "Scottish"? ID = Vasart Ltd - or Strathearn
Post by: Anne E.B. on April 29, 2016, 02:48:18 PM
Just bought this large paperweight which was sold as being "Scottish".  I already have some known Perthshire and Strathearn ones, but I'm not sure what this one is.
I suspect it might have been a seconds as there is a missing yellow cane in-between the spokes (12 o'cock on picture). Also some air  bubbles.  The pontil mark is polished.
It might or might not be old, as although there is a lot of wear on the base this might have been done to conceal it being marked as a seconds (just being a little overly suspicious here).
Anyway, I really like it and it looks nice with my little collection.
Any thoughts on what it might be please?
TIA ;)

It is probably Vasart.  I base this on the way the canes stand tall above the ground.  Strathearn had a glory hole to reheat the paperweight while smoothing down the canes to a uniform surface.

Thank you so much.
The canes are quite high, and a little wobbly too.

May be Vasart but could be from the crossover period into Strathearn (c. 1964).
