Hi
I've got a pint tankard with hops and barley intaglio design to the body. It's not got any marks on it but is a good quality heavy crystal. There is a hexagonal plastic label which is almost clear, but when I examined it with a strong jewelers loupe and light refracted from the label under a light, you can just about make out (from certain angles and with a lot of eye strain ) the 'ghost' text of 'FLINT' roughly central then around the upper edge of the label, there's 'INTAGLIO HAND ENGRAVED' to the top portion, and 'STOURBRIDGE' to the bottom edge. I'm sure there must have been more originally on the label but I can't see it if it's even there any more. I've tried researching the info that I can see and great-glass.co.uk have info about Webb's Crystal Glass Co who acquired Leith Flint Glass Co (c 1920) and Wordsley Flint Glassworks (1930s) so are one of these the same 'Flint' that made this if the label is anything to go by please as they were also in Stourbridge?
I think t's a good quality piece of glass, but I'm not sure if I am on the right path with the info that I have found?
Any info would be great please?
Many thanks
Chriss :)

The plastic label puts it well into the last third of the 20C.

Is this the same label as on your tankard, Chriss? http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/intaglio-cut-lead-glass-vase-276352376

Also, it might be coincidental but Stuart used a hexagonal paper label on some of their pieces... https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/569986896565669606/

I am unable to see anything on pinterest as I absolutely refuse to be forced into installing it.

I'm finding the various glass company's used standard blanks then put a pattern on them, if you google Stuart Crystal tankard you will see lots of the same blank with different patterns, it looks like a Stuart tankard to me but with out holding it, it's all i can do to look at the images, regards Chris.

It looks like a variant of the Richelieu pattern.

It's a website, Ivo, you don't need to install it.

I agree with Ivo (maybe for slightly different reasons).
Pinterest may be a website, but it is a really annoying one. For people not signed in to it, it covers the lower half of the page with "grey matter asking me to sign in or sign up" and then on every attempt to view things by scrolling down, the grey stuff creeps up to cover the whole page and it never goes away until the site page is cancelled.
I refuse to sign in to any site that operates in that bullying way.

me too .
I'm very suspicious of a website that asks for your email address in that way and am thinking that they are 'harvesting' every email address in the world practically as everyone seems to have to sign in to p i nterest to see pictures.
I don't have facebook either mind ::)

Hi thanks for the info, the 1st label looks very very similar, if not the same due to wear? As the Flint is in the same place (but the word glass can't be seen) and proportionally it's right, as is the shape and there may be text top and bottom of that label on your link which looks like darker lines, sorry can't make it out? I can't open pin interest as I've not upload it so can't see images on it either I'm afraid sorry :/ I've found an old thread showing a hexagonal label on here though http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=56107.0 but that one has STUART written across it unless there's variations of the label text? I won't enroll in pin interest to look at pictures either as I don't know what they do with my data. Thanks for your help though :)

Hi Chriss, yes the one on Pinterest (which was originally on Etsy but sold and the image has gone from Etsy but is preserved on Pinterest still) is the same as the one you found on the board - I found 2 more examples of it on Picclick as well (no registration needed to view their images) http://ie.picclick.com/Stuart-Cut-Crystal-Modern-Glass-Purse-Atomiser-With-262428985851.html#&gid=1&pid=1

Sadly I cannot make out the detail of the words on the plastic one on Worthpoint or the one on your tankard, so am unable to compare them. But I did find a pic of a tankard which looks very like yours (with different decoration) but it does also have the Stuart acid mark on it:

The shape of this tankard has had a long run, here are two Victorian ones, one is dated 1890 and it's in mint condition, just dirt under the handle, the other has wear around the contact points both have tiny seeds in the glass and a blue grey colour to the glass. One is a pint and the other a half pint.
