Title: IT's Baaaaack - buyer beware
Post by: alpha on June 16, 2016, 06:40:38 PM
http://www.ebay.fr/itm/Baccarat-1848-presse-papier-sulfure-paper-press-nombreuses-silhouettes-animales-/322153756705?hash=item4b01dc3821:g:GYEAAOSwbYZXYq5h

This weight shows up every summer it seems. Two years ago I was the top bidder. The seller was located in Turkey, the paperweight was supposedly located in Paris, the back account to which funds were to be wired was in Paris, the seller would not accept paypal and would only accept wired funds, and the seller would not permit the weight to be picked up in person in Paris. I asked the seller to take a photo of the weight on a current newspaper to verify his/her possession of it - and received nothing. All the signs of a classic fraud. Buyer beware.

I don't think it really sold. There was negative feedback within 2 days - that is not logical (captain...).

If you look at the feedback, it looks as though a buyer had previously 'bought' an antique clock from the fraudulent seller and paid 1600€ by money transfer. The same buyer had 'won' the baccarat paperweight with no intention to pay the seller, but to use the opportunity to scupper the sale and to post negative feedback in relation to the clock sale, Don

All eBay care about is the 15% cut they get on sales. So a fake sells?  Not their problem.
