Title: IOW blue azurene?
Post by: Ben.unwin on June 19, 2016, 01:34:55 PM
I picked up this vase/lamp and it reminded me of IOW blue azurene.
I'm not sure if it is as the base has put me off a little and I haven't seen any IOW in this shape at all.
Any help welcome!

A studio piece by Charlie Meaker I believe. :)

Yup, Charlie Meaker.  :)

The blue is a bit paler than IoWSG Blue Azurene.
There is more information about him here, sadly, it is his obituary. It does not mention that he did spend a short while at IoWSG.

Thank you! Very quick answer.
They are similar but you are right about it being paler.
Terrible to hear about his death, but happy that I have a piece of his work on the shelf.

I'm very happy to have mine, I have been for a very long time. I loved it from first setting eyes on it and I knew nothing about Mr. Meaker at the time I bought it. It's the same shape as yours. :)

I suspect his being the director of a glassworks in Denmark might have been why we didn't see or hear about him for a long time, after the work he'd produced himself in the uk.
