Title: Bowl / ashtray- Mtarfa signature ?

Hi, could this be one of Mtarfa's esoteric signatures- certainly the colours and base look right.

Interestingly, there appears to be an inner core of clear glass, separating the two design features.

Its weight is 850 gms
Ht 6 cms
Diam 13 cms

Yes. And a lovely and unusual thing too. I've seen paperweights with a similar internal structure, in pink, but a small and very thick bowl is not something I've seen from Mtarfa before.

The small, very thick bowls from Mdina are not overly common either, and the similarity of shape leads me to suspect it might be early Mtarfa - before they really diversified in their own designs. Early Mtarfa is fairly easy to mistake for early-ish Mdina. Mtarfa was not set up until 1981.

Hi, Sue, thanks for confirming that it's a Mtarfa piece.
I spent ages trying to decipher the signature and it was only when I found (online) a few which were somewhat similar that the penny dropped - however even then I wasn't absolutely sure.
I am now  :D
