Title: Daisy bottle for show...
Post by: keith on July 02, 2016, 02:46:45 PM
Just over 3 inches tall, amethyst glass when held to the light, dated 2015 signed and impressed Alistair Malcolm. Popped in the contemporary glass exhibition, again !  no-one there ! thought it would have had more visitors on a weekend  ::) have posted a few pictures in the 'glass events' section.

That's lovely, Keith. I do like his work.  We bought a gorgeous bowl from him at the Northern Glass Fair at Harrogate.

That's very nice, love that green, he was working at the exhibition Thursday and was hoping to speak to him today but the hot glass studio was shut, there's been no coverage in the local media and I was amazed the place was empty  ::)

It changes to blue at the bottom, Keith. See pic of it from the inside attached.

What a shame about the poor turnout - hope it improves!

Anne's little vase is from an early range called "Ripple". I have a little tealight holder in this design, bought from ebay long before I heard of Alistair. When I did buy my very first piece from him, a Platinum vase, I was able to tell him I'd already bought some of his work on ebay. He lept up and down and whooped; "I've arrived! I've been sold on ebay!"

I got a little Daisy bowl for my little brother for his birthday last year. Amethyst and orange.
Piccies.  :)
In the first one, I was trying to capture the bit of clear glass around around the controlled bubble base pad on the bottom, where he's allowed the silver foil to discolour a bit and react with the glass to illustrate yellow polleny stuff around the flower centre.

I wish my photography was up to making it look as good as it truly does, in vetro. :'(

Nothing wrong with those pic's  ;D do like his work this is only our second piece, I was going to get one of his silvery  'trailed' scent bottles but the studio was shut when we went back, picture of him 'knocking off'  ;D ;D

I have a tall vase and small bowl in the (blue and yellow), silver trailed design. (no piccies to hand though)
I'm a huge fan of Alistair's. I think he is the most exciting contemporary glassmaker on these islands, and am of the opinion that his Platinum technique is one that should be considered to be an advance on the techniques of both Graal and Ravena and up there with them, in status.
I might be a little baised. But I don't really think so. ;D

I have tried and tried to photograph my Platinum vase, but have not succeeded in producing one image that even vaguely represents it. It's 3D. photos are 2D.  :(

It's not a wee vase, Sue, it's a bowl. About 6" tall and maybe 5" across. It dates from 2005. :)

I do like the bowl you showed too!

And it's not Ripple either Anne  :-[ Ripple doesn't have foil on it.
I am planning to make an appointment with an optician this week.

We all seem to have the same problem, I have two at the moment but may need a general every day pair  ::)

Get varifocals like what I have (if they suit). I always have the right pair on

I currently have 4 pairs, all 5 years out of date. Varifocals give me constant headaches. I tried them for a whole month but could not manage at all.  :'(
They were only useful for supermarket shopping and I avoid supermarkets now. ;D

It might be worth trying again, as varifocal lenses have evolved considerably in recent years
