Title: Blown etched glass vase with wire

I bought this vase at a local resale shop near Chicago and I have never seen anything quite like it.  It is quite heavy and the wire go from inside the glass to outside but doesn't lead inside the vase.  Any help would be very helpful!  Thank you!
