Title: 1 of 2 paperweights FRIENDSHIP
Post by: malcmat on July 17, 2016, 09:11:27 PM
Purchased in Oregon USA at a thrift store 8.2cm dia x 6.5cm tall and 655gr in weight. Fire polished base with a ground, concave, polished pontil mark on the base. The writing is above a multicoloured frit ground. Have seen a few on the web but nothing to lead me to the I/D.
Any ideas please.

Several glass factories made paperweights with this theme, but based on the profile and bottom treatment, I suspect this was made by Gentile Glass of Star City, West Virginia.

I saw your other posting, and can't see the bottom as clearly.  Do the comparison.  If they were made by the same hand, then investigate Gentile as the maker for that one as well.  However, I have never seen a Gentile weight with that drawing.  The aventurine suggest a Murano origin.

I recall Gary McClanahan giving a talk at one of the PCA Conventions on Mid West American frit paperweights.  He said he had identified over 100 factories that might well have made some.....

Thank You Alan , the bases on the 2 weights are almost identical and will follow Gentile lead .
