Hi guys, I feel embarrassed posting queries like this on the various message boards as I know the more knowledgeable of you out there must get fed up with the same old, 'what's this?' posts. But anyway, I guess it can't hurt to ask!
I'm afraid I'm still a complete newbie when it comes to glass and my collection is still very humble (a bit of Murano, the odd Whitefriars... ) but I do know if I like the look of something. Anyway, to cut to the chase, I picked up this little amethyst coloured (pressed?) glass bowl the other day and for the life of me can't decide whether it's mass market Chinese rubbish or something a bit more 'artisan'. It measures approximately 125mm diameter and 65mm high and does have a ground base. I'm afraid the photos were a little hurried and taken with my phone in less than ideal light but hopefully might be enough for someone to tell me more.

Hi, what you have is a piece of Czech glass. Designed by Rudolf Jurnikl for Rosice. Pattern no. 1145. It's on the Czech glass reference site under ashtrays. 1962, Some lovely stuff to be found on there. I also buy stuff I am drawn to and find out what it is when I get home. Had some nice surprises sometimes too. ;D Cheryl

Hi and welcome. :)
Don't worry at all about asking questions of any sort, we were all new to this once.
Going by "just what you like" is a really good way to go.

I'd just like to say thank you all so much for the fantastic replies and putting me straight on this one. I guess my instinct was right from the start, this IS a nice little piece of art glass with good credentials even though I did get it's country of origin wrong.
I shall continue on my hunt for nice things that take my eye and this little bowl/ashtray will join my modest collection and hold it's head high having been proven NOT to be Chinese tat ;D.
