Title: Minimalist paperweight id please.
Post by: bat20 on July 29, 2016, 02:52:45 PM
Hi,this paperweight has a lot of wear to the base in a bright clear glass,at first sight I thought it was Caithness because of the classic opal white to blue blush of....however they do that, bone ash?.The said blush is very much in the weight rather than on the surface surrounding a few simple bubbles. The base has a lot of wear with a neat fire polished belly button recessed Pontil.Any thoughts thanks.

Yup,didn't think this one was going to be cut and dry,I suppose it could be anyone or an early test from a firm.Little to add apart from there are a couple of white stones in the glass and smaller air bubbles,it also has that slight cobweb look to the inner glass.

Hi.  Although there are some well know paperweight makers, thousands of small glass studios around the world have made a few paperweights as tourist trade pieces at some time in the last 50 years - often with no signature.  That makes it very difficult to tie the simpler generic abstract designs to particular makers.  Whenever we have visited small glass studios whilst on holiday ( in France, New Zealand, Germany, Corsica, England...for example) we have seen some paperweights for sale, even though they were not the main product.

Thanks Alan,I knew it was going to be a tall order,I just thought there maybe a slim chance as the paperweight seems a lot older than the design.
