Title: Small thick walled streaky bowl- ID ? ID = Whitefriars, Dunne-Cooke design
Post by: Scott13 on August 07, 2016, 06:12:26 AM
Hi, any help in ID'ing this bowl much appreciated  :)

It's thick walled, has six lobes at the base and has a ( perfectly formed ) concave polished pontil mark.

The base is quite heavily worn.
My colour sense is pretty hopeless so I'll just call it green ( the streaky bits ) and blue.

Wt 520 gms
W   8 cms
H.  5.5 cms

Looked at a lot of stuff online ( Leerdam, Maastricht , Whitefriars , Scandinavian and Czech ) but haven't been able to find a match

Many thanks for looking

Scott

Could be a Dunne Cooke bowl but I've never seen one with six lobes before, so I'm unsure.

Hi Marc1976, thanks for your reply.

It has the flat top and if it was made at Whitefriars under the supervision of Dunne-Cooke presumably it wouldn't have been too difficult to add a few lobes ?

The streaky bits looked green to me last night and this am ( artificial light), but now in daylight they look more of a bluey green  :-\
The other colour is definitely blue

It would be great if it was a Dunne-Cooke piece.

Many thanks for looking

Hi, here's a lobed thick walled streaky bowl- allegedly by Capt Dunn-Cooke.
It's a lot larger and perhaps less neater than mine but their profiles are similar.........
What do you think ?

He was quite prolific. I have a few of his Strombergshyttan vases.

Yes prolific- and versatile, if he had to run Elfverson & Co as well.

I suppose he signed his Strombergshyttan pieces ( perhaps he didn't, in which case one would have to have an Elfverson catalogue ? ) - but it must be really difficult trying to identify his WF ones.

Great! Yours is looking pretty good for a DC piece then.

Hi,
I'd never have gone down the D-C route if it hadn't been for your input - many thanks !

In view of the link in Reply #8, and the extra info in that other thread, I have set the ID of this thread and shifted it to "British & Irish".

I will set the ID of the other thread too and cross-link with this one.
