Is this made by a Manchester glassworks?
Small pressed glass sugar (I think) made in a 4 part mould with tiny "handles". Stylistically like some Molineaux Webb pieces. No marks unfortunately.
Any ideas would be welcome, but in the meantime I'll keep searching.
TIA :)

Don't think so, doesn't match any pattern I've seen and the style of frosting is quite different.

Many thanks for your comments Neil.
Will keep searching. :)

Hi Anne,
I think this may be a Sowerby pattern #1130 from the 1885 catalogue (Thistlewood Disc 3, Page 48, line 3) the catalogue showing an indistinguishable design registration lozenge that may be of interest to both Fred and Paul ( The 'Glass Queries Gallery' doesn't appear to have a picture).
Kind regards
Nick

Many thanks Nick. ;)
I have both Sowerby CD-Roms but they don't seem to be compatible with my new computer. I've got to figure a way of accessing them.
-
Very well spotted, Nick - I'm sure that you are correct.
I attach a pic of the Sowerby #1130 sugar bowl from Sowerby pattern book XI for permanent reference.
Anne, I have never seen photos of this Sowerby pattern before, so can I have your permission to add copies of your images to the Sowerby pattern album on the Glass Queries gallery, please?
Pattern #1130 is shown as being from a registered design. The style and pattern number probably point to a registration date in late 1875 or early 1876 (which means RD number in the 290000s). If Paul happens by this post, I wonder if he would be kind enough to check through the Sowerby design representations for a likely match, please?
Fred.

You are more than welcome Fred ;)
-
Thank you, Anne. I will add them to the album shortly.

I've had a trundle through the Sowerby pix but wasn't really sure of seeing this one - will have another look over the weekend and fingers crossed will have better luck.
-
Thank you, Paul, whatever the outcome.

Hi,
Anne you're very welcome, and thanks Fred, it's surprising what you find when you're looking for something else :) It gives me as much of a kick identifying something for someone else as it does identifying my own glass :).
Kind regards
Nick

I've been back through those Sowerby Nos. as suggested, but can't see this exact design.............. As we know, Registrations were often for the basic shape only, and didn't show the ornamentation or decoration that ended up being applied, so there's some room for imagination or whatever when it comes to deciding on what the match really is, and it's not often that we have as much of a problem as this.
In the next day or two I'll send Fred some images of what I consider are 'possibles', so see if two minds are better than one. If he thinks that one of these is correct, then I'll do the necessary and post the re-sized and watermarked Kew picture - but at the moment can't guarantee we're going to be successful.

Look forward to seeing the images in due course, Paul.
Fred.
