How unusual, and not what I was expecting at all from the title -
I was expecting a small plate with sections that perhaps might take small triangular shapes of processed, homogenised, treated, chemically enhanced, semi-solid whitish gunk wrapped in thin aluminium foil.  ;)

And how just plain silly are the "Happy 40th Anniversary" plates, Paul?

How many folk treasure those?
How many were delighted when presented with them?

Why are they all loitering lonely-ly for months on end, on charity shop shelves, before they finally get culled and binned?  ;D

There are loads of plain silly and useless things out there. Why would a plate specifically designed for inedible commercial processed savouries be exempt?
The processed stuff is already "out there", that's quite silly enough. ;D

What would the flowers look like Keith?
There are lampwork flowers currently being made, and put in similar small things, by somebody in Scotland. I encountered them recently. Snowdrops and bluebells.
Would those suffice, or are you desperate to try to track down the correct ones, (I would imagine you are) and what should we be looking for, for you?

sniffs, audibly, several times (for effect and sympathy) at having been chastised.  ;D ;)                 I thought it was only animals that were culled?, aren't plates and such like just smashed ;) ;D

I suppose I should be all hoity-toity and smug, then, but I'd only be putting that on for effect too, Paul.  :-*

It is called culling in charity shops, when stock that has been out for too long and is unsold.
Sometimes, it gets shifted to another shop in another area, where that sort of thing will sell, but I haven't ever found evidence of anybody buying a 40th anniversary plate anywhere, at any time.
Anything that cannot be sold is recycled, if that is possible, unsold books get sold by weight to a company that takes them.

It all has to be properly recycled and/or dealt with responsibly.

And who would buy a birthday greetings plate (or whatever it is) that has no apostrophe in the word, "Its" when it is a contraction of "it is"? ::)

Certainly not anybody who could properly be described as "thoughtful" Kevin!
"Heart-sink" items for the staff in charity shops. ::)

I've seen far worse. :)
That has little pussy cats on it. I'm afraid I'm a complete sucker for pussy cats.
But I still wouldn't have it, even as a gift. ;D

Thank-you all for tolerating my wibble. :-[

Keith, I bought an identical vase last year at a car boot and it held six snowdrops which I gave away, so they are still out there to be found

You will be pleased to hear that I just scared my little cat silly, Paul.
I guffawed, loudly and unexpectedly at that. I nearly scared myself. :o

thanks for still being my friend Sue, despite my dopey comments earlier......    however, I have to refrain from replying to your latest missive  -  it has the potential to get me into a lot of trouble. ;) ;)

I feel sorry for your little pussy though. :-*

Here's the photo used in the book, showing three daffodils with two leaves in the little pot. Total height is just 18.5cm

Stuart, you said a vase with snow drops did you mean paperweight  ?

You have now Sue!  ::)  The middle one is the Ruby (40th) wedding, the other two are 50th and undated... all have since gone to our local charity shop.  :-*

 ;D
You had a reason to buy it, Anne, for photographic records, not for somebody as a gift, and you did send it back to a charity shop. I'll give you an A* for effort, but I'm not absolutely convinced it counts. :P

;D Oh indeed, Sue, never as a gift, what an awful thought. There is no-one I dislike enough to do that to.  8)
