Title: Registered Design database
Post by: Paul S. on September 01, 2016, 11:08:05 AM
I get the impression that the GMB Reg. Design database is under-used  ..............    perhaps mostly by people who are newish to the Board, as you might expect.          Is it possible the Mods. might make access easier to follow, or locate it as one of the highlighted subject headings in GLASS or BRITISH, rather than the need to wander off into the Glass Gallery?                       I could have that all wrong, of course, being pc-illiterate - but when I need to access, it seems to be located off the beaten track. :-\

Assuming it's in the database, the Registration No. can be punched into the search, and in theory the required item should appear.         I say that as Registration Nos. contained therein are not in numerical sequence, and viewers might believe they need to search all nearly 100 pages to locate their particular item.

Paul, I will flag up your thoughts about use of the Reg design lookup in the Moderator Central forum for consideration.

The Glass Gallery - 06 Registered Designs (http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/thumbnails.php?album=763) entries can be sorted in ascending or descending order of RD No. by clicking on "Title + / -" at the top right corner of the page. This, at least, allows a fairly quick way to locate a Reg No. by clicking within the page numbers shown at the bottom of the page.

The Search function on the GlassGallery will find a design number, just enter the number on its own in the search box here
http://www.yobunny.org.uk/glassgallery/search.php, e.g. 870054 would give results as 1st screenie attached in all albums across the GlassGallery.

The sorting order of images in the GlassGallery albums can be changed by the viewer by using the wee menu at the far right of the blue header bar for the album (see 2nd screenie attached).

I'll look at adding a direct link to the RD Gallery as well, thanks for the suggestion, Paul. :)

I've split this off from Margaret's ID request as it has a useful suggestion that we may otherwise lose in the discussion of that item.

Paul, in case you've missed it I've added a note with a link to the Registered Designs album to the top of the first post in the Lookup Requests topic (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,52152.0.html) and I have also removed those replies for lookups which you have kindly done for us, and left the four which are still awaiting your attention when you have a minute please.  :-*

Thank you for those links, Anne.

As you know, I've used the GMB RD database for some a few years now, just using it and contributing to it 'because it was there', but without ever noticing (or attempting to try) the 'search facility - Doh!

Note to all computer software developers - "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." (George Carlin).

Hooray! - so much easier now!!

Memo to myself: If all else fails, read the instructions (even if you have to look hard to locate them)!

Fred.

sincere thanks to Anne and Kevin for their compassion and offer of help to us older less bright students. ;)           Obviously, if my suggestion/s are less than useful I will understand..............    Personally, I don't have a problem using the data base - but it occurred to me to wonder if there was a more user-friendly way of going about things for those new to the Board.

Gosh, are there four to do still :-[  -  I will be at Kew either next Tuesday or Wednesday looking for the elusive Sowerby item for Chris  -  so will try to fit these un-checked items then.
