Title: Isle of Wight elephant
Post by: mattschlan on September 24, 2016, 07:52:26 PM
I have this lovely little glass elephant made by Isle of Wight glass. I haven't seen one before and wondered if anyone knows anything about it ie when it dates from and how many were produced.

It's small at just 4.5cm tall, but is beautifully modelled.

Am i correct in thinking that it is gold azurene pattern?

Thanks

Matt

Hello Matt,  yes these are Azurene finish in the Maximals and Minimals range, and were produced from1982 - 1985 on the Isle of Man.  They were granted an exclusive licence by Michael Harris to make them, then they would be sent to the Isle of Wight studio to be packed and sold. There is a lot more history to be learned about these lovely little animals,  but I will leave it to others here to tell you more. Here are a few of mine,  and there are many others to collect... squirrels, rabbits, birds, ducks, frogs, snails, polar bears, pigs and others too. :)
