Hi all,I found this piece recently for the princely sum of 50p and at first glance the signature is very hard to see at all,it's 8" we...go on have a guess.

When I saw it I thought it was probably a Scandinavian artist,but infact the maker is English.

I guess this is a bit unfair as it it could be loads of people,so here is the signature and I think the rest of it is Lincoln 1977,very pleased to have found it,it has to be at an exact angle with the correct light to see the signature ,I suppose that's how it escaped notice.?........If it is him!!

Thanks m,could someone educate me on how this piece was made please.....glass mould of some sort??

I've not a clue how it was made, but given the name, (pick me up off the floor please, then my jaw which appears to be stuck) I'm suspecting "something experimental and innovative".

Do you think it could be a sand cast?

I wasn't sure if he would have got to sand casting in '77, but I do think that's how this was done.
I can't find my Glasshouse book to check there, but I have found Graham McLaren's little book; "Studio Glass 1960-2000", from which I can quote (p. 35-36)

"... Stourbridge College of Art ... stands out for its role in promoting kiln-forming techniques. The significance ... has largely been as a result of the teaching activities of Professor Keith Cummings...

Cummings' technical skill has been disseminated over the years via his seminal book "Techniques of Glass Forming" (1980) and through the students he has taught since 1968 at Stourbridge, many of whom are now leading practitioners. Of these, Brian Blanthorn, Tessa Clegg, David Reekie and Colin Reid are all outstanding in having extended kiln-forming processes in many ways."



There are images of his rather famous human figures, the earliest described dating to '87, just 10 years later than this bowl.

I was not sure how old Mr. Reekie is or how early he started working. This information suggests it was quite early. :)

He's 69 and studied at Stourbridge 1967-1970. He had a fellowship in glass at Lincolnshire and Humberside Arts (1975-1980) when this was made (he was 30).
