Title: Heavy cased oval vase - ID = Zibo Zhaohai Light Industrial Products
Post by: chilternhills on October 18, 2016, 10:59:38 PM
I recently acquired this heavy cased vase, with green stripes and purple shapes suggesting flower petals. It is 12.3 cm high and 12 cm maximum diameter. The base is ground completely flat and has no marks or signatures. It sort of reminds me of work by Edward Hald in its shape and heavy casing. Any ideas who made this? I really like it.

Relatively modern Chinese, Anton.

Zibo Zhaohai Light Industrial Products Ltd - their website has gone but there is an image of the same piece on the web archive copy of their website... https://web.archive.org/web/20040129170004/http://www.zhaohaichina.com/ARTGLASS/pages/ZHB045_jpg.htm

I recall we talked about these vases over a decade ago here: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,4506.0.html (images gone though).

Thanks Anne. Chinese it may be but I think it has design quality and is well made. I think others will appreciate it too. I didn't pay much for it and intend to move it on.

I agree, they are nice looking vases Anton. I remember being really surprised when we found they were Chinese. Good-sized decorative piece. It shows how much the Chinese glassmaking industry is changing over a relatively short time, partly I suspect as glassmakers from other countries where glassworks have been closed down have been enticed to work in China and so increased the level of skill in many Chinese makers. There is some really attractive stuff being made there now.
