Title: Cloudy / Bubble Art Deco (?) Bowl ID Needed. ID = Nazeing
Post by: The Glass Staircase on October 27, 2016, 10:36:26 AM
Hi all!

I found this bowl on Tuesday at the local salvage yard and I've not had time to do much research - its clear glass encasing streaky, bubbly yellow/green powder with a rough pontil scar on the base with no marks and substantial wear so I'm assuming it must be from the first half of 20th century.  It's 5.25 inches diameter , 2.25 inches high , 3.5 inches diameter rim. Any help in IDing it would be greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards, Adam

Some of these can be tricky, although Nazeing might be a good place to start..

My thoughts too. (You weren't at Steptoe's were you?)

Thanks guys! I did think Nazeing but couldn't find one in similar shape except their ashtrays which seem to be smaller than this (I'm going by the Nazeing ad's found in 20th Century British Glass) Yes it was Steptoe's actually, great place to find glass gems for a few bob :)

As long as you take some wipes and hand gel and don't wear your best clothes.  ;D

I will update the title of this thread to give a "Nazeing" ID.

I just happened to be browsing Geoff Timberlake's book and on page 51 there is a small bowl (different shape) that appears to be the same colourway as the bowl shown here.

And on page 105 of the book, there are two bowls in the Cirrus SUite (1950s) that seem to be of the right form.

It's the droppings from the low-flying birds you really need to watch out for.
Head gear is advised, along with the biohazard suit.  ;)

Great thanks for the extra information Kevin confirming it as Nazeing , the colour made me look elsewhere as I had never seen any in such colour(s)

Yeah the droppings/general gunk can make or break a deal sometimes, I found a casket shaped poison bottle last week but it was covered in droppings and slime so I left it, I should have got it but I forgot my hand wipes that day lol
