Hi,
I found this unmarked Greek Key sugar recently and have trawled through the usual sites and literature without success. Stylistically I'm guessing at late 19thC and Manchester influences, but other than that I'm out of ideas. It might not of course be English, I'm hoping that you guys might have more of a clue.

hello Nick - fingers crossed Fred will recognize this one - if he doesn't, then I'll go through the Kew records for possibilities. Unfortunately, the lack of a lozenge and Rd. No. might make it impossible to get a positive id. - Greek key decoration was very common in the second half of the C19.
P.S. The original factory drawings of Registered designs, as we know, didn't always show the decoration - mostly they were used to register and protect the shape rather than embellishment.

Thanks for that, as you say it's less likely to find an ID without marks but any help is gratefully received. It won't be the first Greek Key piece I have that's unidentified, as you say, the design was prolific.
On the point of your post script, I was searching the Sowerby Glass Queries Gallery recently and found your National Archives pic here: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?album=1001&pos=822 which appears to be a 'form only' version of Sowerby #1507 on page 10 of the 1882 catalogue. I'd be interested to know your and Fred's views on this.
I hope to post some other views on unrecognised patterns on the Sowerby gallery in the British Glass section at a later date.

The Greek key sugar is not one that immediately springs to mind, but I will search through the photos to see if there is a match.
I think that the Sowerby design representation that you are referring to is Sowerby RD 352133, registered 13 July 1880 - Parcel 11.
If so, I think that it a strong contender for Sowerby pattern 1507.

I would welcome your input on any aspect of the correlation between Sowerby RD numbers and their Sowerby pattern numbers.

Thanks for looking always much appreciated.
Kevin did mention the correct URL to use during a previous topic (if you're looking in Kevin, forgot to say thanks by the way), but I forgot doh.
As to the gallery pattern numbers, I'm still working through a list and will post when I have a number of possibilities. I'm happy to help out Fred, the work you do on this resource deserves as much help as we can provide, it's invaluable and much appreciated.
