Hi,
Perhaps you might be able to help me determine the likely age of this retro looking but quite ugly 13" tall vase please.
My opinion is that it is quite modern and probably from the Orient. However there are movement marks around the base edge so I thought I should check it out before deciding on it's fate.
Hope someone in the board might have seen it or it's like before and advise ;D
Thank you,
Bryn

Is there graduation in the colouring beyond that of the stretching?
It looks a bit like Zbigniew Horbowy's style.
A wonderful Polish artist, designing in the '70s.
I've just done an image search, I can't find this shape and perhaps his designs are a bit more out of the ordinary than this is.
Perhaps Japanese?
I don't think it's a "consign to the bin" thing. It's decidedly "retro".

It reminds me of a similar type vase, same colour, which I posted some time in the past. There was a suggestion is could be Empoli.
Its a fab retro looking piece!

Now Zbigniew Horbowy's glass is quite familiar to me as a previously owned vase is still being used as my iphone screensaver! It took me many months to discover the creator of that lovely vase. I think I found an identical vase on Etsy.
The caramel colour of this vase is fairly uniform except for the bulbous middle which is more than a little paler and this lighter tone is replicated on the inside under an almost white fire polished? rim.
I can see that Mr Horbowy did incorporate at least 1 extraterrestrial creation which carries the title Flying Saucer. Perhaps my vase could be described as a fictional Space Station when taken in the same light.
Intriguing!
I don't think it would have been binned but could well have ended up in a charity shop. That won't be happening now.
Thanks Both!

Delighted to hear that you have heard of Horbowy.
I don't think the quality is quite there for his work. The rim is too clunky and I don't think there is a true graduation of colour, not in the way Horbowy deliberately caused, but it's still a great "retro" beast, even without an attribution, it's desirably decorative.

I used to have this lamp in what looks like a similar colour: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,35266.0.html

Yes, that colour does seem similar John and Empoli has been mentioned. I don't know what the market is like for space themed glass at the moment but might give try it on the bay and just hope it will take off!
Cheers,
